Hessle Audio with Pearson Sound – Featuring Richard Akingbehin – 21st July 2025
This post is mostly about the guest, Richard Akingbehin, though any regular reader will know that I do love the Hessle Audio show and this isn’t the first such post.
I normally prefer when Ben UFO hosts, from a musical perspective, though only slightly – yet this one is possibly one of my favourite ever shows by Pearson Sound.
Musically it starts slowly, with atmospheric and fairly ambient music – hints of a dub soundscape (the sound to come) but lightly so.
Richard Akingbehin was someone I only very vaguely knew of before this, as co-founder of Refuge Worldwide, and only from name – I’d never listed to his music.
His mix starts fairly early in the show, and is a class representation of dub techno sounds, finishing on a dub reggae beauty – which feels like it’s from another decade yet has a real modern feel to the production.
One thing I enjoy about dub techno is that I just recognise so little of it, although he does play some more house-sounds too, most of the tracks have that ethereal dub techno soundscape to them. It is a rather gorgeous hour.
Afterwards Pearson Sound keeps it moody and occasionally abstract, often offbeat. Some really great music played through the two hours.
Enjoyment rating of 7.87.
