This week’s recommended mix comes from Tristan Da Cunha – not the volcanic isle but a stalwart of a house music DJ.
Resident at Back To Basics in Leeds for 25 years now, Tristan Da Cunha is a vinyl obsessive and musically centred around house music – but not just house music.
I feel like I saw him in Ibiza back in around 2006 – though I’m not sure if I’m mis-remembering, as is very, very possible for me at that time, and Ibiza memory in general.
The mix starts quite slow, two-stepping for a time with some fairly chilled garage from the likes of Phone Traxxx. Quite sparse, almost minimal garage.
It moves along this way, always quite sleek before taking a bass-driven turn around the halfway point, and becomes more party garage – but not full of known tracks, in fact focused still on underground and lesser-heard, quality music.
Garage at it’s best from Tristan Da Cunha.
